RS Cat A Little (“Jed”)
Price: $5,500
Jed has been with the same family for the past 12 years of his life - from 4 years old to present. They have since moved on to show cattle, so it’s time that Jed find his next family to love on him. He is no stranger to the pay window, as he has won his share of paychecks in the sorting pen. Jed is all business, but will gladly go to war for you. He has always taken care of his rider, us included. This guy is quick, he is catty, and he moves exactly like his bloodlines say that he should, but is always the same horse each and every ride, whether that be in the arena, in the pasture, on the trails, or in the sorting pen.
In the arena, Jed is simple and uncomplicated to ride - you don’t have to set him up to pick up his leads, push his hip over, pick up the shoulder, etc. Just sit there and look pretty and he’s got the rest taken care of. He never misses a lead, works pretty circles both ways, and has a heck of a stop - just the way a cowpony should. He rides on a nice, loose rein, or bits up in the face and breaks nicely at the poll, when asked. Jed is well-broke through his body, too, in that he moves his shoulders, ribs, and hips off of all the appropriate leg cues. He needs nothing but a simple O-ring snaffle to show off his moves.
Jed knows a thing or two, because he’s seen a thing or two. He’s got all the exposure that a gelding his age should. He navigates any and all terrain - water crossings, heavy brush, hills, creeks, fallen logs, etc. Jed is careful to pick his way through any and all that we have asked him to, both in our pasture and on the trails. We recently rode him through town, and he is not bothered by traffic in the slightest. He’ll step over curbs, ride through parking lots, and takes in all the commotion of the city. We have also rode him around our ranch, bareback, in nothing but a halter. He is always a gentleman.
He leads, loads, ties, hauls, bathes, gets along well in the herd, and stands quietly for the farrier, and to be groomed and saddled. Jed’s family never sent his paperwork off to AQHA, but it is all in-hand, signed, and ready to be mailed off, if you choose to finalize his registration with AQHA. I chatted with his breeder on the phone, and she was a very sweet lady that had nothing but good things to say about his dam. Jed is current on farrier, deworming, and has a current negative Coggins. He stands 14 hh, has great bone, and is very-thick made. I do suspect that he has some slight arthritis in his right hock, but has no issues picking up leads, stopping hard in the arena or while sorting cows, running and playing in the pasture, etc.
